A new Pew Research Center report released this week shows what many of us young people in progressive politics already know: that the Bush administration has essentially killed the built-in advantage in the electorate that it took the GOP 30 years to create. In fact, the gap in the advantage that the Dems hold over the GOP amongst young voters has literally more than doubled since the 2004 election, from 11 percent to 25 percent.
Perhaps the most significant piece of information in the report is that even young men now prefer to identify themselves as Democrats. This makes them the only age category of all men that identify themselves this way. Should this hold for a few cycles, the Republican party is in a lot of trouble.
