I noticed this morning that several of my online cohorts are helping to promote a group that looks to link returning veterans with free or discounted local goods and services. I also see that the coolest band teacher west of the Mississippi is helping out with the group’s event at Caras Park on June 15th (although they spelled his name wrong). I hope everyone in the community jumps onboard with the group and offers up their businesses. It’d be really great to see some of the more simple, everyday needs on there like discounted groceries.

The Welcome Home picnic and free family concert on Father’s Day, June 15th, at Caras Park is a wonderful event for the whole community. All soldiers, sailors and Marines will be recognized with free food and soft drinks. Come and honor our military, current and retired. The event starts at noon and goes until 6 p.m. We need veterans to attend as well as the general public.
The day before is Flag Day on June 14 and a flag retirement ceremony will take place in Missoula at the Rural Fire Station One at the corner of Reserve Street and South Avenue from 2 to 4 p.m. The United Veteran’s Council hosts this annual event. Bring old, worn and tattered American and Montana flags to the fire station through June 6th (D-Day) or to Missoula Textiles stores. Questions on both events? Call 251-5116.
