The state GOP is still apparently trying to make hay of the non-issue of Gov. Schweitzer recording a few PSA’s with radio stations promoting Ag Month as they know Roy Brown’s got nothing to run on. I thought this had gone away.
This issue is particularly funny to me, as I personally work in a decidedly non-progressive workplace where we still ask the Governor to serve as a mouthpiece occasionally because, well… He’s a good spokesman. The state GOP really showed their cards when they filed the confidential complaint and then promptly leaked it. Even funnier is the notion that Gov. Schweitzer somehow used these PSA’s to try to get a leg up on Roy Brown when he didn’t even originate the thought to produce them. He was approached by the radio stations–not vice versa.
I suppose this all would have been a non-issue had Roy Brown recorded some himself. It’s likely he wasn’t asked because he’s proven time and again that he isn’t much of a friend to agriculture in Montana. In the last legislative session alone, Brown voted against provisions to boost Montana ethanol producers, voted to weaken COOL legislation, and voted against funding to protect Montana beef herds from Mad Cow disease.
Perhaps that’s why (as far as I can find), he doesn’t even bother to mention agriculture and how important it is to our state anywhere on his campaign website.

Best summary I’ve seen on this silly business by the state Republicans. You reaffirmed my first thought at reading about their complaint — Republicans don’t support family agriculture. Thanks and keep up the good reporting!
