GOP & MT Contractors Association Team Up For Dirty Tricks

May 27th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Matt’s got a good scoop over at LiTW right now about a PAC started up by two state GOP staffers (Chuck Denowh and Dustin Stewart), and the MT Contractors Association’s Cary Hegreberg to play in the HD 7 Democratic primary between Judy Stang and Paul Clark.

Some might recognize Stang’s name, as she is the sister of former Democratic legislator and now Montana Motor Carriers Association director, Spook Stang. Spook was never a very progressive Democrat–and I don’t know Judy’s politics–but I don’t think this is about them rooting for what they consider to be the lesser of two evils. I’m pretty sure that this is likely about gravel pit regulation, a topic that Rep. Clark has dealt with in the past in his work on the Natural Resources committee and elsewhere. It probably doesn’t hurt that all that gravel hauling is pretty good business for the Motor Carriers Association members too.

Nobody expects class from Chuck Denowh and Dustin Stewart, but Cary Hegreberg has little business meddling in primaries.

Ole’ Judy is a Mineral County Commissioner who’s never met a subdivision she didn’t like. She’s a rare advocate for the selling off of public lands, and has quite the potty mouth.

In other words, just a peach.

Why don’t you read the Constitution and see what principals this Country is founded upon. You need to read about that all people are created equally.
Does it really bother you that much that there are Democrats that are actually pro-business?

I fully support Mr. Hegreberg’s constitutional right to participate in the political process Mr. Anderson, do think however that it’s bad form for a visible head of an advocacy organization to get involved in political dirty tricks.

Also, your accusation that I’m bothered by pro business Democrats is absurd. I consider myself one. Ironically, this would all the more apparent if I were able to blog non-anonymously. I’ve worked on multi-million dollar projects (both in past and current work lives) with several of your organization’s members.

Being pro-business and simultaneously unethical have nothing to do with eachother–despite the examples being set in this country lately.

It is incredible how conclusions can not only be jumped to, but leapt to with great exaggeration. As stated by Mr. Anderson, she has every right in the world to be “meddling” in primaries. Contractors provide an incredible amount of economic boost to this state, and if the politicians keep attacking their way of life, Montana is going to lose out BIG. As stated in the article, no one actually knows about her; let’s do some research before we start slander.

The people of Mineral County know her Joel…take a look at her voting record.

    I forgot to mention - she’s a realtor too.
