What To Do After You Strike Out With Romney?

As Matt reported earlier, the big, bad Club for Growth is up on the air next week in Montana with ads attacking Senators Baucus and Tester for their support of the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act. Known for their rabid aversion to any sort of regulation, this move isn’t a big surprise, although one would think many of their leaders would’ve learned their lesson in the 90’s when they so ardently fought anti-CFC gas legislation. An interesting Montana-related note: CFG director Howie Rich is the man behind the slew of failed and ultimately illegal ballot measures in our state.

Nevertheless, Senators Baucus and Tester should be honored to be in the crosshairs of the 527 that was fined over $350,000 over the course of three consecutive election cycles by the FEC. After which, they still had the gall to actively fight 527 reform in Congress. The same CFG that provides cover for Grover “Reduce it (Government) to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub” Norquist, even as Americans tragically die due to old and failed infrastructure.

When the scofflaws are on your case, you know you’re doing something right.

The ad is correct, Montana cannot afford massive new government. Our governor has proved that; after increasing state spending 41%, wasting our entire budget surplus, many of the benefactors of the pay increase find themselves struggling to find funds. The wording is kind of off, however. After one of the coolest, wettest winters in many years in America, and other parts of the world mysteriously getting colder instead of warmer, Al Gore and scientist that were sure we were all going to roast had to change the name to “global climate change.” This is something that has been happening since the earth’s creation – Big Bang or God-sent. At one point, the world was covered in ice. Apparently there was some major global warming between then and now. While energy efficiency is a great investment, there is so much more to learn before jumping behind major legislation that hasn’t been proven to change anything.
